The Serenity Statement guides my life in recovery:
I seek the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference
When I experience a challenge, my first question is "can I change this situation?"
If the answer is NO, then I use my acceptance skills to manage my equanimity.
If the answer is YES, then I reach for the courage to act in a way that improves the situation. I lean on the principle of "progress, not perfection" to give myself grace and to avoid shaming myself if my actions do not create the impact I intended.
I find I live a more peaceful life using this simple filter to guide my thoughts and actions.
